Hilo is in the County Of Hawaii Island and is located in the District of South Hilo. The town overlooks Hilo Bay and is the home of the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival situated upon two shielded volcanoes; Mauna Loa an active volcano, and Mauna Kea a dormant volcano.
