Obituary for Patrick Antonio Ramos
Patrick Antonio Ramos, 44, of Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii, received his angel wings on Saturday, June 29, 2019 when he died in the waters of Nu’u Landing in Kaupo. He was born on June 30, 1974 in Wailuku, Maui, the son of Teresita Antonio Tablang and the late Benny Ramos, Sr. He graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1992 where he was a strong athlete playing football and baseball.
He was employed as a house painter and construction worker. His great joy was ocean fishing where he was skilled at net throwing, and spearing fish and squid day or night. Patrick is known for his warm, ever-present and infectious smile, sense of humor, fun, and service to others. He was a humble man who loved his sons
deeply. Patrick wanted to celebrate a milestone birthday by camping and fishing in Kaupo with some of his close family and friends. Despite being a strong and powerful swimmer, Patrick was overcome by rough waves and strong currents. Sadly, he died the day before he reached age 45. We take comfort in knowing he
was in the ocean at a place he loved surrounded by people he loved. Patrick had a challenging life but turned to the Lord and became an example of overcoming adversity. In our eyes he is our hero and we are so very proud of him.
Patrick is survived by his loving mother and stepfather, Teresita and Celedonio Tablang, his eldest son,
Jacob Antonio Ramos and young adult son, Bryson James Ramos (whose mother is Tammy Manabe). He
leaves behind a grandchild, Jacob’s son, Jayzen Koapaka Ramos. He also has two younger sons, Lucas
Kapono Ramos and Nicolas Kekoa Ramos (with his former wife, Bea Ramos). He is survived by his
girlfriend, Lyra Cabrera. Patrick has two maternal half-siblings, Alma Tablang and Allan Tablang (Kiyoko Nakasone). He has paternal half siblings, Juliana (Lyndon) Kaupu, Marialena (Larry L., Jr.) Rawlings, Benny Ramos, Jr. (Melinda Miller), Cheryl Ramos, Grace (Fidel) Manglal-lan and Leilani (Viliami) Oliveti. His hanai
daughters include Tracy Manabe, Tiffany Pacheco, and Ashley Balailio. His hanai grandchildren are Jayse
Manabe, Isabella Yuen, and Emma Lynn Yuen. He also leaves his hanai sisters Dr. Virginia “Virgie” Cantorna, Evelyn “Evie” Chargualaf, and Sandy Hew. Patrick is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews from all over including Molokai, Las Vegas, Seattle; Orange County, and Stockton, California and Fort Worth, Texas. Patrick is predeceased by his loving grandparents who raised him, Ramon and Valeriana Donia Dagdag. The family is forever grateful to his son, Jacob; Sam, Ryan and others who pulled him from the ocean and administered CPR, the Kula ambulance and rescue helicopter crews, the Hana Police, and all bystanders who tried to revive Patrick and support his family and friends present. We send
love to the Antonio, Donia, Dagdag, Ramos, and Sadang families, and all of Patrick’s mentors, coaches, and buddies who grieve his loss.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Ballard Mortuary. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by Catholic mass on Monday, July 15 at Christ the King Church in Kahului. There will be another memorial on
Saturday, July 20 with gathering at at 9:00 a.m. and scattering of ashes at 11:00 a.m. at La Perouse Bay. In
lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to support his mother and children.
