Hajime Tanaka, 94, of Ola'a, passed away on September 17, 2019 at Hilo Medical Center. Born on December 21, 1924, he was a retired Civil Engineer and Landscaper, and served in the United States Army.

Hajime is survived by his wife, Jean Tanaka of Kurtistown; daughters, Kathryn Tanaka of Kurtistown, and Karen Tanaka of Seattle, Washington; sister, Hatsume Tanaka of Keaau; nephews, Stefan (Kyoko) Tanaka, Thomas (Kim) Tanaka, David (Mary Beth) Tanaka; nieces, Kamalani Smith, Lenora (Michael) Tanaka; brother in law, James Takakura; sisters in law, Teruko Smith, and Nancy Tanaka.
