Obituary for Samuel Viveiros

Samuel “Big Sam” Viveiros, 72, of Makawao passed away peacefully on November 25, 2019 at his residence. He was born on August 17, 2019 in Honolulu.

Sam was born on Oahu and raised in Kailua. He attended Radford High School and worked on his Uncle Fred Viveiros’s ranch in Kailua. Sam became a Honolulu Police Officer, later he transferred and moved to Molokai.

He later relocated to Maui and became a Cop there. Maui would be his home until he died. Sam always loved the Paniolo lifestyle being raised around cattle and horses in his youth. Upcountry Maui would be the perfect place to go.

Sam’s Parent’s Arthur & Minerva Viveiros bought a piece of land in Makawao in the early 70’s. It would become home for the next 45yrs. Sam worked the land and made a Ranch out of it. He built a barn and arena then bought some stallions and bred horses.

He also leased several hundred acres of land and raised cattle. He was stock contractor for several Rodeo’s. Sam was also the best Rodeo Announcer in the State of Hawaii. His voice ringing out through the speakers got everyone excited and involved to be part of the Rodeo & Polo Community.

Sam was always about good times and good friends. He kept the feeling of Aloha and the Paniolo lifestyle alive.

Samuel is survived by his son, Vance “Kamuela” Viveiros; sister, Mary Ellen Viveiros; and grand daughter, Samantha Leilani Viveiros.
