Alfred Tavares 3rd, 80, of Hilo, passed away on January 1, 2020 at home. He was born Hawaii. He was a heavy equipment operator for Yamada and Sons. A part of the Hilo Trollers Club, Kaumana Kumiai, ILWU, and St. Joseph Church.
Services with be held at Ballard Family Mortuary Hilo, 570 Kinoole St. Hilo, HI 96720, on January 15, 2020, visitation at 5:30pm, service at 7:00pm. Church service at St. Joseph Church, 43 Kapiolani St. Hilo, HI 96720, on January 16, 2020, visitation at 9:00am, mess at 10:00am. Burial to follow at Mauna Kea Memorial Park in Kaieie (Papaikou)
Alfred is survived by wife Annabel Tavares of Hilo; sons Gary (Laurie) Tavares of Hilo, Leroy (Malia) Tavares of Portland, Oregon, Greg (Monica) Tavares of Hilo; daughters Donna (Abraham) Medeiros of Papaikou, Juliann (Michael) Figueroa of Pepeekeo; sister Patricia Ongais of Keaau; sister in-law Sharon Tavares of Keaau; brother in-law John Kalawe; 19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
