Michael Calvin Carey, 71, of Lahaina Town, Hawai’i, passed away on January 20, 2020. He was born on May 4, 1948 in Long Beach, CA and was raised in Manhattan Beach, CA. Michael was a graduate of San Diego
State University where he lettered in Volleyball and was also an avid Beach Volleyball player and is considered one of the legends of the sport.

Michael was a retired Real Estate Agent who truly believed in the sentiment of Maui n¯o ka ‘oi. He also spent many years working with friends and family at the Hula Grill where he was affectionately known as ‘Coach’. While in college, Michael worked at the Chart House Restaurant in San Diego, CA and later managed the Chart House Restaurants in Lahaina, HI and Aspen, CO.

Michael is survived by his children, Jennifer Carey Springer (Scott), Stephanie Jean Carey, Justine Lee Coull (Alasdair), Matthew Calvin Carey; brother, Tim Carey (Kim); sister, Teresa Veria-Means; and 6 beautiful grandchildren, Danielle, Emily, Joshua, Theo, William, and Elspeth.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Saturday, February 1st from 5:00 pm till sunset at Black Rock Beach in Kaanapali, HI.
