John Joseph Hamacher
September10, 1950 – October 10, 2017
John Joseph Hamacher, 67 of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, was born in Los Angeles, California, and passed away on October 10, 2017. John grew up and attended school in Los Angeles where he earned a degree in Air Craft Mechanics. In his early adult life he lived and worked in Medford, Oregon where his daughters were born. Later he moved to California where he worked as a construction contractor in the San Francisco Bay Area completing 70+ Starbuck renovations.
He reached his goal in 2004 by retiring and moving to Hawaii with his wife and son.
In Hawaii he started volunteering for Habit for Humanity on several housing builds.
Eventually he joined with four other fellow retired volunteers as a team helping non-profit groups with small construction projects. They were dubbed the “Rat Pack” and the name stuck. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed sharing his skills with others. John also enjoyed Sundays at Grace Community Church, family outings, family gatherings, car shows, movies, and watching the Kona sunset.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Hamacher; son Stephen Hamacher of Denver, Colorado; daughters Staci (Andrew) Bajuniemi of Walnut Creek, California; Linsey (Trevor) Rogers of Tillamook, Oregon; sister Donna Fischer of Grants Pass, Oregon; brother Michael (Arlene) Hamacher of Los Gatos, California; and two grandchildren. He has several loving cousins and in-laws.
An open house for Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 5, 2017, at the Kona Educational Center (formerly Outdoor Circle) from 2:30 - 5:30. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Kona or your favorite non-profit are appreciated.
